Written, directed, and produced by Bong Joon-ho, Mickey 17 is based on the novelMickey7 by Edward Ashton,, which follows the titular character, who is known as an “Expendable.” In other words, he’s a disposable employee who is able to regenerate a new body with most of his memories intact. “From the Academy Award-winning writer/director of “Parasite,” Bong Joon Ho, comes his next groundbreaking cinematic experience, “Mickey 17.” The unlikely hero, Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson) has found himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job… to die, for a living.”

Robert Pattinson will lead Mickey 17, with the actor expected to play the role over and over again. The rest of the cast will surely have you seeing stars and includes Oscar nominee Steven Yeun (Minari, The Walking Dead), Naomi Ackie (I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker), Oscar nominee Toni Collette (Hereditary, The Sixth Sense), Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo (the Avengers films, Spotlight) and Holliday Grainger (Great Expectations).

Robert Pattinson Gives Another Unique Performance in Mickey 17

“What’s it feel like to die?” is the question posed Mickey 17, and Robert Pattinson will answer that question over and over again. Following the release of the long-awaited trailer, fans have taken to social media to share their reactions to the delightfully odd-looking sci-fi outing, which seemingly boasts another unique performance from the former Twilight actor.

“Robert Pattinson doing another freaky little voice. We won,” said X user @strangeharbors, while @verymimi adds, “i love that robert pattinson is the best actor of his time but also clearly possessed by the spirit of a lobotomized court jester from 1340’s austria. Duality!” Another fan, @english_shamar, suggests that we “Go ahead and give Robert Pattinson his Academy Awards, BAFTA, and Golden Globe noms now.” Check out some more reactions to Pattinson’s latest performance below.

The adaptation is expected to make some major changes from the book, with author Edward Ashton having previously revealed that he had no idea a movie was in the works until he saw a press release. However, the writer has said he has no issue with Bong making changes to the story as it makes its way to the big screen. He explained to Nerdist:

“He doesn’t need to involve me. I’m not complaining about that at all. I’ve had people ask me ‘Are you nervous?’ Literally, director Bong is going to change a lot about the book. When I spoke with him, he made it pretty clear. ‘You’ve got a 350 page book. I’m gonna have a 120 page script. There’s a lot that’s gonna go.’ So my answer is no, I’m not concerned about that at all. In my view, the man’s a genius. I don’t believe he’s ever made a bad film. And I sincerely hope that this isn’t going to be his first.”

Bong, meanwhile, has described Mickey 17 as “a story about a simple man who ultimately ends up saving the world. It’s a strange type of hero’s journey,” while Pattinson has called the movie “unusual,” “bizarre,” and “funny.”

“I’ve been the biggest fan of Bong for many, many years; he’s my hero. I got sent the script; I was told, ‘You’re gonna love the script, but the part is impossible.’ That was very, very exciting to me. I thought it was the most unusual, bizarre, funny script.”

Mickey 17
